Four generations, 100 years of history

"PONS LIM" is a brand created in 1925 that is currently manufactured and sold by Metalurgia Pons. LIM, S.L. In these years the company has positioned itself as one of the few European companies with the greatest specialization in the manufacture of hinges and hardware for furniture, construction, cases, nautical and automotive.

We produce more than 1,000 references and there are more than 10,000 possible combinations between its variants. Currently, LIM products are distributed to more than 40 countries, mainly in Europe, America and the United Arab Emirates.

The beginnings

Born in Alayor in 1886, Cristobal Pons Pons was an industrial in the field of costume jewellery who started his own company by manufacturing silver mesh purses for ladies during the first decade of the 20th century. Due to a heavy crisis in the sector, he later had to reinvent his business.

He chose to do so together with accountant Joan Ginard, a native of Alayor like himself, and Otto Froëhlich Bub, a German mechanical expert who came to live on the island after the Second World War, around 1919.

By founding La Industrial Metalúrgia (LIM) back in 1925, a company specialised in manufacturing keys and hinges for carpentry, the three of them transformed Cristobal’s jewellery business into what would be the initiation of the village’s future industry.

Second generation

Antonio and Estanislao Pons Carreras, two of Cristobal’s seven sons, continued the business, found by their father.

Driven by their vision for the company, they trained their nephew Bernardo Pons Casals, who was used to work within the family company since his early childhood, for taking over leadership one day and for being the one to run the business in the future.

The company is growing

In the seventies, Bernardo Pons Casals (3 rd generation) eventually took over the helm of the company, and it was during the time of his leadership that the family business grew and started to operate on an international level.

Bernardo Pons Casals was an entrepreneurial and innovative character, always looking for new market niches for a quality product.

Investing in modelling and tooling made it possible to adapt to the market´s tendencies and to anticipate costumers´ needs in the best possible way. As a natural consequence, Metalurgia Pons became a well-known name that paved the way for the company´s products crossing frontiers and being sold outside Spain.

He managed to position the LIM brand as one of the most recognised in Europe by substantially expanding both product range and customer base, and by always aiming for highest quality standards.

Modernization

In the 21 st century, the company’s history was continued when Bernardo Pons Casals’ children Bernardo and Isabel Pons Mascaró (4 th generation) were included in the management panel.

The generational renewal that came along with it allowed Metalurgia Pons to perfectly adapt to the challenges of a global economy.

Whilst modernizing machinery and clinging to the idea of making a difference by maintaining a high product quality, delivery times were minimized in order to meet costumers’ needs in the shortest delays possible.
